Your tire tread won’t last forever and eventually after driving for many road trips, to and from work and all those trips to the corner store for some late night snacks on your cheat day from the gym you will need to replace your tires.
The costs associated with your car tires is something you probably don’t look forward to but did you know that there are ways to help maintain optimal performance of your vehicle while avoiding a premature tire replacement? Well good news, by the time you need new tires you will likely notice that one end of your car seems to have more wear and tear and your tires will not be worn evenly from the front of your car to the rear.
The reason your car tires do not wear evenly has a lot to do with the actual car’s mechanics and weight distribution – plus your Fast and the Furious style drifting might not help. Your vehicle will wear out the front tires faster than the rear ones. When it comes time for replacing two tires for your two wheel drive car, your gut will be telling you to replace front tires with new ones so that by the time they wear out you will be replacing both the front and rear sets of tires. While this is a good guess, it is not what should actually happen when you replace two tires.
When tires are replaced in pairs in situations like these, the new tires should always be installed on the rear axle and the partially worn tires moved to the front. New tires on the rear axle help the driver more easily maintain control on wet roads since deeper treaded tires are better at resisting hydroplaning.
If your rear tires have less tread depth than the front tires, the rear tires may begin to hydroplane and while it may sound cool to glide on top of water in your car, it certainly isn’t cool to do this on the 417 Queensway. In fact, hydroplaning can be very dangerous and cause you to lose control of your vehicle and crash.

So when you replace those tires, make sure to rotate them as we discussed and put the new ones on the back or you risk turning your car into a bobsled but you won’t be winning any gold medals in the Olympics. Please note that the industry recommends to change all four tires at the same time when you drive an All Wheel Drive or 4×4 vehicle.
